Program:

  •  The music of Frédéric Chopin, Henryk Wieniawski and Grażyna Bacewicz and patriotic songs, including those from the times of insurrections and the Polish Legions

The majority of the most popular Polish patriotic songs originates from the times of the First World War. They were created primarily by the soldiers of the Polish Legions, who were trying to find a way of keeping their spirits high and expressing their patriotism while far away from their homeland While some of those pieces are adaptations of folk or military songs, others were created by professional poets and composers, who often combined their artistic activity with being active soldiers on the fronts. Amongst those authors we can mention the Polish Legions member and writer Feliks Gwiżdż and the Cracow poet Jan Lankau, who later became a soldier of the 148th Regiment of Field Artillery in Olomouc. Today, any celebration of the anniversary of regaining our independence after years of occupation is inseparably tied to singing or listening to these songs. In the Łódź Philharmonic, the songs from more than a century ago will be performed for you by the philharmonic’s amateur Choir for the (non)resistant directed by Mariusz Lewy with the accompaniment of an instrumental ensemble. The program also includes pieces by Polish composers: Chopin, Wieniawski, Szymanowski and Bacewicz.
