The Lodz Philharmony today

The Arthur Rubinstein Lodz Philharmonic is nearly one hundred years old however it is one of the fastest growing  cultural institutions in central Poland. Every month it gathers over five thousand music lovers under its roof offering them outstanding concerts of classical music, introducing them to contemporary and jazz music regularly, broadcasting live opera performances from the Metropolitan Opera in New York as well as welcoming the Met artists on stage. The world – class stars perform at its stage. During this bicentennial year of Chopin celebrations, Lang Lang, Pogorelic and Rafał Blechacz played in the concert hall among many others. The widely acclaimed Piotr Anderszewski has also his own festival here. The best early music ensembles are often guests at the Philharmonic. Such a wide range of repertoire can meet the highest expectations of  the audience and offer everyone their favourite music at its best. The Lodz Philharmonic is also renowned for its unique nationwide project such as a series of concerts of contemporary music ‘Contem.ucha’ and music workshops ‘The Music Explorers’ for children and ‘Baby Boom Boom’ for babies and their parents. It also promotes young artists and gives them the opportunity to test their skills when working with symphony orchestra during the annual The  Lodz Philharmonic Premium festival. For eleven years now, the  award – winning Touring Festival, Colours of Poland has been travelling around the most interesting local sites during summer season. Historic churches and monasteries, old castles and interesting museums become summer concert halls where you can listen to a light repertoire such as jazz concerts, chamber music, folk and old music. The keener music lovers are invited to ‘Classical Music – how to listen’  workshops which will lift the curtain on  music and also the ‘Note Reading’ sessions during which we will explore the music in our favourite books and finally to sing together in ‘The Choir for Beginners’ for which there are no auditions and the only main goal  for you is to take pleasure from singing. All of you who are curious about how The Lodz Philharmonic functions, are welcomed to our Open Days, customarily held on International Music Day on 1st October.
