The ARPO’s Mixed Chorus was established in 1969. In the beginning, it was led by Tomasz Szymański, and since 1982 its choral director has been Marek Jaszczak. The Chorus’s repertoire encompasses 130 oratorios and cantatas ranging from the 17th century to contemporary compositions. They include Magnificat by J. S. Bach, Judas Maccabaeus by G. F. Handel, The Seasons and The Creation by J. Haydn, Paradise and the Peri by R. Schumann, Te deum, Seven Gates of Jerusalem and Polish Requiem by K. Penderecki, Symphony No. 9 by L. van Beethoven, A German Requiem by J. Brahms and Requiem by G. Verdi.
The Chorus has toured both Poland and abroad and has also made many recordings. It performed Krzysztof Penderecki’s Polish Requiem, Wojciech Kilar’s Missa pro pace and Zdzisław Szostak’s Missa latina under the baton of their composers.
The Chorus has earned substantial critical acclaim. Witold Paprocki’s article in the magazine Ruch Muzyczny reads: “The Chorus is a very important part of the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic and it works hand in hand with the Orchestra to produce music events of the first magnitude. Led by Marek Jaszczak since 1982, it has achieved a rich, even, and clear sound, and has also gained an international reputation that is reflected in its many invitations to perform around Poland and abroad”.
